Mackenzie Wellesley has spent her life avoiding the spotlight. At Smith High, she's the awkward junior people only notice when they need help with homework. Until she sends a burly football player flying with her massive backpack and makes a disastrous - not to mention unwelcome - attempt at CPR. Before the day is out, the whole fiasco explodes on YouTube. And then the strangest thing happens. Suddenly, Mackenzie is an Internet sensation, with four million hits and counting. Sucked into a whirlwind of rock stars, paparazzi, and free designer clothes, she even catches the eye of the most popular guy at school. And that's when life gets really interesting...
Hi everybody! The other day I went to my local Barnes and Noble, and decided to pick up a copy of Awkward by Marni Bates. I’m pretty happy I did. It was a really funny, cute read.
The book follows Marni, an awkward junior in high school, after her big klutzy move makes her a big Youtube sensation. She always seems to manage to get into uncomfortable and awkward situations. Awkward was really funny and Marni was the sort of character that you found yourself being able to relate to(I think we all have had certain awkward/klutzy moments at one point ;). Through YouTube, she catches the eye of all of America, and is soon meeting famous bands and going on talk shows. As she tries to go back to being invisible and going unnoticed in school, she realizes it’s a lot easier said then done.
In this book, Marni was a character with a totally amazing love interest. I thought he was really great and perfect for Marni. I loved the ending and am looking forward to reading the next book, Invisible(it follows the life of Marni’s best friend Jane).
There was a few themes that I did not really enjoy, but besides that, I would recommend this book. It got 4 out of 5 flowers for me.
