Last year, I read one of Elizabeth Eulberg’s books, Prom And Prejudice. I thought it was really cute, so when I saw Take A Bow at my library, I got it right away. I ended up starting it that Sunday night, and I told myself I’d just read one chapter (since the next day was school for me). Yeah....that didn’t happen. I ended up staying up until 1:00 a.m reading the whole book . I’m ordering my own copy to re-read soon :)
The book is told in four different alternating points of view and it was so well written and intense. The four main characters it follows are Emme, Sophie, Carter, and Ethan. Emme is the sweetest person ever, who is pretty shy, though. She and Ethan are part of a band (The Teenage Kicks) and she refuses to believe that her best friend Sophie constantly uses her. Sophie is a shallow, self-absorbed person who will push everyone out of the way to get fame no matter what the cost. Ethan is secretly in love with Emme, and has been for many years, but he’s a total player. Both Emme and Ethan are totally amazing characters that you can’t help but root for. With Sophie, she is so self-concerned and shallow, that I kind of felt bad for her, that she didn’t realize all the amazing people she had all around her. It did drive me crazy, though, how she constantly worked to try to bring Emme down since she was “the more talented one”.The last character, Carter, I feel was the least important to the book. He was a child star and is the boyfriend to Sophie. He starts to realize over time (with the help of Emme) his changing feelings towards certain parts of his life and how he has to move on form them.
All the characters came across as so real. The tensions were so high, and reading this, I felt like I was watching a TV show, with all the different twists and turns, along the way. This book was amazing all around! (I would definitely buy this- like now!) The only negative that I felt about this book is that I always feel like Elizabeth Eulberg’s endings to her books are always kind of rushed. This book did have a sort-of epilogue that summed things up pretty good, though. Besides that, this book was incredible. I’d give it 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait for her next book to come out! From the fantastic author of The Lonely Hearts Club and Prom & Prejudice comes a story of all the drama and comedy of four friends who grow into themselves at a performing arts high school.
Emme, Sophie, Ethan, and Carter are seniors at a performing arts school, getting ready for their Senior Showcase recital, where the pressure is on to appeal to colleges, dance academies, and professionals in show business. For Sophie, a singer, it's been great to be friends with Emme, who composes songs for her, and to date Carter, soap opera heartthrob who gets plenty of press coverage. Emme and Ethan have been in a band together through all four years of school, but wonder if they could be more than just friends and bandmates. Carter has been acting since he was a baby, and isn't sure how to admit that he'd rather paint than perform. The Senior Showcase is going to make or break each of the four, in a funny, touching, spectacular finale that only Elizabeth Eulberg could perform.
