Of Poseidon by Anna Banks Book Review

Of Poseidon (Of Poseidon, #1)
Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he's heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen — literally, ouch! — both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma's gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom . . .

Of Poseidon was an amazing book and turned out to be the best mermaid book I had ever read! I loved the romance and the characters.
Of Poseidon alternates point of views between Galen and Emma. Galen starts following Emma after he suspects she might be one of them- a mermaid (just don’t use that word in front of Galen ;) Over time, they start to like each other- as more than friends.
I really liked Emma. She was such a strong lead that didn’t let anyone push her around. She also could be really kind and caring. I thought it was really funny how little Galen knew of human life, especially dating. There was one line that had me cracking up, where he is shocked at the number of girls sending him “mating” signals. He doesn’t seem to realize just how hot he is. Also, he has a sister, Rayna, who’s mated (kind of like married) to one of their good friends, Toraf. Rayna is pretty independent and has a temper. She was pretty annoying at first, but over time, I started to like her a lot more.Toraf was a really great character in general. He was super nice and just an overall good person.
The romance was amazing! The relationship between Toraf and Rayna was interesting and sweet in the way that Toraf was constantly trying to make Rayna admit she loved him. The things he went through for her were unbelievable. Galen and Emma seemed to have a more normal relationship. Galen was way overprotective, but I found that pretty cute. There were several amazing scenes between the two of them in the book. Emma and him were so great together and I loved their relationship.
The whole book was full of action and the ending was amazing- a giant cliffhanger. I’m really, really excited to read the sequel whenever it does come out. I’d give Of Poseidon five out of five flowers. This is definitely one of my new favorites and one I'd highly recommend to anyone!

Teaser:
“Galen?”
“Hmm?”
“You can put me down now.”
“I’m not ready yet.” He tightens his hold.
“You don’t have to hold—“
“Emma? Can you hear me?”
“Uh, yes. I can hear fine. I just can’t see—“
“That’s a relief. Because for a minute there, I thought maybe you didn’t hear me when I said I’m not ready yet.”
“Jackass.”

  2. I have read several mermaid books in my 30 years, and so far only one has been a good read for me. That was Anne Greenwood Browns Lies Beneath. I loved that book. But I am hesitant to try another mermaid bok because I have had such bad experiences. However, I have been told again and again by people who's opinions on books I trust, that I need to give Of Poseidon and Vicious Deep a chance. Now here is another great review, so I think I will finally suck it up and go for it. Hopefully I have as good of an experience as you with this one!

  6. Been wanting to read this one for a while but I haven't gotten it yet. I still have The Vicious Deep to read, my first foray into the mermaid books, but I have a feeling I'll be getting this one next.
