Confessions of an Angry Girl by Louise Rozett Book Review

Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions, #1)
Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has someconfessions to make…1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?
2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is nowenraged and out for blood. Mine.
3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)
Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.
(Don't know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)
(Sorry. That was rude.)

I loved the idea for Confessions of an Angry Girl, and left the book having throughly enjoyed it :)

The book follows a girl named Rose. Her dad has recently died in Iraq, her mom doesn’t pay attention to her, and her brother’s away at college. It starts out with Rose starting her freshman year of high school. She and her best friend, Tracey, seem to be growing apart. At the same time, she starts to like the school’s bad guy, Jamie Forta.

I have to say that Confessions of an Angry Girl is one of the most realistic contemporaries I’ve read in a while and I feel like Rose was one of the most relatable characters I’ve read about in a while. All the characters and how the high school are stay true to how high school pretty much is. I loved how everything was so realistic and I also loved being able to see into Rose’s head.

Rose was a complicated character. I didn’t really agree with certain decisions she made, but I probably would of also made some of them.  She was pretty cynical but still a loyal person. All the different characters were pretty awesome. I didn't really like Rose's best friend, Tracey. I thought she was really rude and would do anything to fit in. Especially when Tracey makes cheerleading, Rose and her start to grow farther apart.

This story had the typical mean girl, except she seemed extremely mean, like borderline insane ;) I really didn't like her and how she tried to make Rose’s life miserable. I definitely understand why she was so mean to Rose, but I still didn't think she was right. She was a pretty big part of the plot.

This book talks about sex at some points. There was one incredibly awkward scene involving it, that I was kind of uncomfortable reading about. Also, there are parties and alcohol. However, the scenes like that weren’t unbelievable and were actually really realistic. The only thing I  didn’t really like was how Rose treated other characters, even if she was an angry person. I felt she was really nasty, but she did show remorse, at least. None of us are perfect ;)

Confessions of an Angry Girl was a really good, enjoyable read that I’d recommend to any girl that's around my age (a teenager). I feel like a lot of people can identify with what Rose goes through. I’m really excited to read about Rose’s sophomore year in Confessions of an Almost Girlfriend. I’d give Confessions of an Angry Girl four out of five flowers.
