My Super Sweet 16th Century by Rachel Harris Blog Tour

On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore.

Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

I was so excited to be part of the blog tour for this book! I love historical fiction, and wish there was more of it in the YA genre. I also loved the idea of a modern-day girl traveling to Italy in the 16th century. My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century was an amazing debut novel that I’d highly recommend.

The book follows a girl, Cat Crawford, who’s movie producer dad is newly engaged to Cat's stepmom-to-be, Jenna. With her actress mom completely out of the picture, she isn’t exactly happy to have a new stepmom. It doesn’t help that Jenna wants to throw Cat a giant Sweet Sixteen, that would also be filmed by MTV. When Cat walks into a gypsy tent and is transported back to the 16th century, she soon has a whole new adventure in front of her.

I thought Cat was a great character! She was really relatable and I thought she was a really good person. Over time, she had pretty much closed herself off to believing in love and getting close to others. Her experience in the 16th century really helped her let others in. I also really loved a lot of the other characters. When Cat lands in Italy, she becomes a girl from London named Patience, the cousin of an Italian family. Alessandra was the daughter of the family Cat was staying with. She was such a sweet person and was an overall amazing person! Also, there’s a guy Cat likes, Lorenzo, an aspiring artist like Cat. He was so funny and confident. I've always really liked those two qualities in guys. Also, since he grew up with the manners of the 16th century, he was really courteous and sweet.

The plot was fun and super interesting. The way Cat stumbles through 16th century life and all the proper customs was hilarious! A lot of the characters were like a lot of people you could meet now (in the 21st century ;) and I loved how that was interwoven with the century. The historical aspect of the novel was perfect, and wasn't ever overwhelming to the plot. I loved all the lessons throughout the story and how all the characters developed so much over time. It was such a fun book!

I really enjoyed the book and I would give it 5 out 5 flowers. If you’re looking for a fun read with awesome characters, I’d read My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century :)

Author Spotlight

As a teen, Rachel Harris threw raging parties that shook her parents’ walls and created embarrassing fodder for future YA novels.
As an adult, she reads and writes obsessively, rehashes said embarrassing fodder, and dreams up characters who become her own grown up version of imaginary friends.
When she's not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, you can find her homeschooling her two beautiful princesses, hanging out with her amazing husband, or taking a hot bubble bath…next to a pile of chocolate.
MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY is her debut novel.  She did have her own fantabulous Sweet Sixteen in high school. Sadly, it wasn't televised.
