Smart Girls Get What They Want by Sarah Strohmeyer Book Review

Smart Girls Get What They Want
Gigi, Bea, and Neerja are best friends and total overachievers. Even if they aren't the most popular girls in school, they aren't too worried. They know their "real" lives will begin once they get to their Ivy League colleges. There will be ivy, and there will be cute guys in the libraries (hopefully with English accents) But when an unexpected event shows them they're missing out on the full high school experience, it's time to come out of the honors lounge and into the spotlight. They make a pact: They will each take on their greatest challenge--and they will totally "rock" it.
Gigi decides to run for student rep, but she'll have to get over her fear of public speaking--and go head-to-head with gorgeous California Will. Bea used to be one of the best skiers around, until she was derailed. It could be time for her to take the plunge again. And Neerja loves the drama club but has always stayed behind the scenes--until now.
These friends are determined to show the world that smart girls really can get what they want--but that could mean getting way more attention than they ever bargained for. . . .

Smart Girls Get What They Want was such a funny, awesome read. It’s one of my new favorite contemporaries so far this year!

The characters were great and I really liked the main character Gigi. She was one of three girls (Bea, Gigi, and Neerja)  in a group of really smart best friends. I could relate to Gigi a lot throughout the book and she was really relatable to me. I really liked her best friends, too-especially Bea- an aspiring lawyer :) They were so funny! One of the things I liked a lot about the characters was their smart decisions. The title says they are smart (I love the title!) but they really are, just in general. I feel like it’s hard to find heroines who always seem to make the best decisions and I felt like Gigi did, even though she did manage to say some pretty dumb things at times.

Also, I loved all the book references the author put into the book. At one point in the story, Gigi is at a used book store, picking up some of my favorite books, like Anna and The French Kiss and Meg Cabot books. It was really cool!

Lastly, there were two different guys in the book. One of them was Mike- who Gigi initially thinks of as a “dumb jock”, despite the fact that he’s in all of her AP classes. She might of have had a crush on him in middle school ;). Then, they get mixed up in a cheating incident and are forced to work together. Also, there’s another guy- Will, a really cute guy who had just moved to New England from California. He was extremely smart, also. I really liked one of the boys a lot better than the other. I don’t want to spoil it, but when your’e reading, you’ll probably figure out who my favorite guy was :) Both of their characters were really well developed and overall, awesome.

I really enjoyed Smart Girls Get What They Want and I’d give it five out of five flowers. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a fun read!
