Quinn’s done the unthinkable: she kissed a guy who is not Carey, her boyfriend. And she got caught. Being branded a cheater would be bad enough, but Quinn is deemed a traitor, and shunned by all of her friends. Because Carey’s not just any guy—he’s serving in Afghanistan and revered by everyone in their small, military town.
Quinn could clear her name, but that would mean revealing secrets that she’s vowed to keep—secrets that aren’t hers to share. And when Carey goes MIA, Quinn must decide how far she’ll go to protect her boyfriend…and her promise.
If I Lie was one of my most anticipated books, if not the most anticipated book for me this year. I loved the idea behind it and it turned out to be one of the most emotional books I’ve ever read :)
If I Lie follows the life of a girl, Quinn, who lives in a military town. She has been alienated by everyone in the town after she is caught cheating on her boyfriend, Carey, who is serving in Afghanistan. Constantly tormented, Quinn has secrets that the others don’t know, one involving Carey and the other is not telling who she cheated with.
Quinn was such an amazing, heart-wrenching character. She was so strong and loyal to Carey through all she had to deal with. The way she was bullied everyday by everyone was else was terrible! I just felt so bad for her. All the characters were so realistic. Quinn’s mom had left her and her dad when they were younger, which caused so many people to constantly compare Quinn to her mother, in the way she was. Also, all the characters- no matter how amazing or terrible they were- tugged at your heartstrings. The characters truly made this book.
For the plot, it moved at such a good pace and I was able to read through the book in only a few hours. If I Lie tells a story of love, war, and loss. This definitely wasn’t a light contemporary, and I felt myself tearing up at so many various points throughout the story. It helps show how kind and strong different humans can be. The ending was sad for me, although it was really realistic. I wish there could be a sequel to it, for sure.
Overall, If I Lie was an amazing contemporary that I’d give 41/2 out of 5 flowers. I am so excited to see what else Corrine Jackson writes! Also I have an extra copy of If I Lie that I'm giving away :)
