Unraveling Isobel by Eileen Cook Book Review

Unraveling Isobel
Isobel’s life is falling apart. Her mom just married some guy she met on the internet only three months before, and is moving them to his sprawling, gothic mansion off the coast of nowhere. Goodbye, best friend. Goodbye, social life. Hello, icky new stepfather, crunchy granola town, and
unbelievably good-looking, officially off-limits stepbrother.
But on her first night in her new home, Isobel starts to fear that it isn’t only her life that’s unraveling—her sanity might be giving way too. Because either Isobel is losing her mind, just like her artist father did before her, or she’s seeing ghosts. Either way, Isobel’s fast on her way to being the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons.

Unraveling Isobel was such a sweet, amazing mystery! I originally expected this book to just be a cute contemporary, but it turned out to be so much more with the great mystery that played such a huge part in the book :)

Unraveling Isobel follows Isobel, a girl who has to move away from Seattle to a creepy house with her new stepdad and a really cute stepbrother. From there, she starts seeing ghosts and different creepy things keep occurring, making her wonder what’s is actually going on in her new home.

Isobel was such a funny character, especially with the way she handled all the stuff she had to deal with. I  felt like her mom was a selfish person, though, mainly because of how she didn’t seem to take any of Isobel’s feelings consideration. Isobel had to move in her last year of high school, to the new house with her mom, who had met her stepdad only six months earlier. Also, her mom tended to believe her new husband over Isobel, most of the time-which I though I was horrible. I felt so bad for Isobel having to go through all that. There was also the stepbrother, Nate. He was a great guy, and I thought he was important to how the mystery turned out. The characters were all awesome!

In the town Isobel was in, everyone had known each other for forever, so she didn’t fit in very much at first. She had such an awesome personality! She was funny and she wouldn’t let anyone push her around, which I always like in main characters. This book had so many different plot twists towards the end that surprised me a lot, especially with the mystery surrounding the estate Isobel now lived in. I always love a mystery, especially when it’s not too creepy, and this one was perfect. I did not at all expect the mystery to turn out the way it did. Also, there was definitely a paranormal aspect to this book, so it wasn’t only a contemporary.

Also, Isobel had some family issues, which definitely played an important role in the book. The mystery was my favorite part, with the romance being a close second. I loved the way this book turned out and I’d give it 41/2 out of 5 flowers. I’d recommend it to almost anyone :)

  2. Interesting! I haven't seen this book before but I'm now all curious about it. I might know what's that all about but you say it's more than contemporary. I'm also curious about that new house, and I won't even talk about stepbrother. I really hope I'll get the chance to read this book. Great review! :)
