Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes Book Review

Falling Kingdoms (Falling Kingdoms, #1)
In a land where magic has been forgotten but peace has reigned for centuries, a deadly unrest is simmering. Three kingdoms grapple for power--brutally transforming their subjects' lives in the process. Amidst betrayals, bargains, and battles, four young people find their fates forever intertwined:
Cleo: A princess raised in luxury must embark on a rough and treacherous journey into enemy territory in search of a magic long thought extinct.
Jonas: Enraged at injustice, a rebel lashes out against the forces of oppression that have kept his country impoverished--and finds himself the leader of a people's revolution centuries in the making.
Lucia: A girl adopted at birth into a royal family discovers the truth about her past--and the supernatural legacy she is destined to wield.
Magnus: Bred for aggression and trained to conquer, a firstborn son begins to realize that the heart can be more lethal than the sword...
The only outcome that's certain is that kingdoms will fall. Who will emerge triumphant when all they know has collapsed?

I’m not usually a fantasy fan, but I ended up loving Falling Kingdoms! The plot was very intense and the interwoven stories for each character were amazing.

There are three point-of-views, although two other characters had their point of views shown occasionally. Falling Kingdoms takes place in three different kingdoms. Cleo is the princess of an extremely well off kingdom, Auranos. Jonas, another character, lives in the neighboring and extremely poor kingdom, Paelsia. Lastly, Magnus is the prince of Limeros and the son to a very powerful king.

The plot was intense, and I never got bored. The characters switch point-of-views from chapter to chapter, and I thought that was perfect for this book. It kept my interest for each character and I loved how the reader is able to understand what is going on in all the different kingdoms at the same time. There was a lot of buildup in the plot, and the prologue definitely caught my attention from the very start. Also, the ending was so amazing, especially how everything became so much clearer about all the different kingdoms and people.

The characters were, in my opinion, the most amazing part of the book! I grew to really like them all over the course of the book. At first, I thought Cleo was just a spoiled princess, but she turned out to be so much more. She was such a brave, optimistic person. I thought Jonas’ determination was great, but the character I liked the most was Magnus. He cared so deeply, and he had gone through so much. His perspective on everything was so unique.

There was a romance in this book, and at some times, there was insta-love. All the relationships were so intense, especially what came out of the different relationships. I wasn’t sure how I felt about some of the relationships, but I hope all of the characters get their happy ending in the sequel to Falling Kingdoms, Rebel Springs.

Falling Kingdoms is a great fantasy book definitely worth checking out! All the characters and the interwoven storyline make for a captivating story :) I’d give Falling Kingdoms 4 out of 5 flowers.

* Thank you so much to ARCycling for the chance to read Falling Kingdoms! :)
