Since the snowy night when her family's car slammed into a tree, killing her parents and little sister, Sasha has been unable to speak except through a computer with a robotic voice. Nothing is wrong with her body; that's healed. But, after four years, Sasha's memory, and her spirit, are still broken. Then one day, she's silently cussing out the heavy book she dropped at the library when a gorgeous, dark-haired boy, the kind of boy who considers Sasha a freak or at least invisible, "answers" Sasha's hidden thoughts -- out loud. Yes, Ben can read minds; it's no big deal. He's part of a family with a host of unusual, almost-but-not-quite-supernatural talents. Through Ben's love, Sasha makes greater progress than she has with a host of therapists and a prominent psychiatrist. With him to defend her, bullies keep the world from ever understanding Sasha, he pulls away. Determined to win him and prove her courage by facing her past, Sasha confronts her past -- only to learn that her family's death was no accident and that a similar fate may wait for her, in the unlikeliest of disguises.
Louder Than Words was a very intense book. I can’t think of a better way to describe it. It wasn’t lacking in the fast pacing and the mystery was very interesting. The only thing I felt lacked from the plot were the characters.
Louder Than Words is about a girl, Sasha, is about a girl who has lost her voice after being in a car accident that killed both of her parents just a few years before. Over the course of the book, she begins to realize that the accident may not have actually been an accident.
I loved the pacing and the constant twists and turns this book had and it was really hard for me to put it down. At the same time, though, I didn’t like Sasha very much. It seemed like she gave up on herself ever being able to regain her voice and she was a very negative person. Also, I felt some of her thoughts were pretty uncomfortable to read. The love interest, was an interesting character. I just couldn’t decide whether he had genuine feelings for Sasha. He did do some some jerkish things to Sasha.
The mystery was so amazing! The one thing I did greatly admire about Sarah was her drive to figure things out. Her best friend was pretty awesome as well :) I didn’t expect the mystery to be solved the way it was, with the motivations different people had. Just to let people know, a warning about this book is that it's pretty heavy on the sexual content. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone younger than 15.
Overall, Louder Than Words was a page-turning mystery. Although I didn’t find the characters that great, the concept and mystery behind the book were. Overall, I’d give Louder Than Words 3 out of 5 flowers.
