Touch of Frost by Jennifer Estep Book Review

Touch of Frost (Mythos Academy, #1)My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy; a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest. But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someon
e stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why; especially since I should have been the one who died...

I hadn’t heard of Touch of Frost before the most recent book in the series, Crimson Frost, came out. The series sounded really interesting and I loved how quickly the books came out, so I decided to give it a try. I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next few books :)

Gwen is a gypsy in a school for warriors. She's pretty out of place there, and she is still dealing with her mom’s death while trying to solve the murder of a popular student. She just had so many crazy things to deal with. I'd be pretty overwhelmed with all of it.

The writing was really great! It was extremely descriptive. I just felt about the first 100 or so pages of Touch of Frost was slow. Otherwise, the plot was great. I liked Gwen as a character, and I also loved all the humor infused in the plot. There were several surprises in the book, and I loved how although the high school was similar to a normal one, several things were still very different in it. The same stereotypes existed, but they changed over time.

The plot and inner mystery had several shocking surprises to me. There was a lot of mythology intwined in the story. Also, there was a love interest, Logan ;) He was so amazing, and although there wasn’t too much romance, I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen with it in the next book in the series.

All in all, Touch of Frost is a great start to a series. It caught my attention and kept me firmly interested in it the entire time. I’d give it 4 out of 5 flowers, only because of the slow beginning it had. Happy reading!

  2. This one really did have a slow start but the rest of the books in the series pick up much faster. I think this one just had a lot of world building. Great review!
