Breathless Reads Signing Recap and Giveaway

Hi! Yesterday, I was able to attend the first stop on the West Coast leg of the Breathless Reads tour, which was such an amazing event. It was a lot of fun! Here's my recap of it:
The authors attending were Marie Lu (Prodigy), Andrea Cremer (Rise), Brenna Yovanoff (Paper Valentine), and Jessica Khoury (Origin). They had a panel, and each of them answered various different questions.

Here are some things I learned and thought were super interesting at the signing:
  • It only took Jessica Khoury 30 days to write Origin.
  • Jessica Khoury thinks It Will Rain by Bruno Mars is a great theme song for Pia.
  • Andrea Cremer's celebrity crush when she was 12 was Han Solo. Marie Lu liked Leonardo DeCaprio when she was 12 (before he was in Titanic).
  • If she had to write in another genre, Brenna Yovanoff would choose to write a YA contemporary.
  • One of the first books Marie Lu wrote was a high fantasy.
  • Andrea Cremer said that writing her novel with David Leviathan wasn't too hard, since it's written with alternating point of views. She mentioned it was like sending a letter back and forth.
  • Jessica Khoury really loves how accessible the young adult genre is to all ages.
While I was at the signing, I got my copies of Prodigy, Rise, and Origin all signed. I've only managed to read Prodigy so far, but the other two sound great! I also picked up some really cool Breathless reads swag while I was there. I'm giving it away to any US/Canada resident.

  3. Ugh, I'd SO love to go to an author event. I was going to go this Saturday, but no ride. I'm so happy you shared with us so thank you! 30 days? Whoa. And I like how she described it as writing a letter back and forth. Thank you for the great post!

  4. Awesome! I met Andrea and Marie last year at Passion and Prose, with last years Breathless Panel! They were both so friendly!
And that is so cool that Andrea Cremer wrote a book with David Levithon! I read his book "Dash and Lily's Book of Dares" a couple of weeks ago, and absolutely loved it! I'll have to check out Invisibility!! :)
He writes a lot of co-author books! He also did "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" with his "Dash and Lily's Book of Dares' author, Rachel Cohn! :)
