Discussion: Super Powers in YA

I've always really loved the idea of superpowers :) When I was a little kid, I would see the occasional episode of Superfriends or another show inspired by the idea of superpowers. Lately, there have been a lot of amazing books in the young adult genre being released involving some sort of power. Here are some of them:

The Powerful Touch:

Touched (Sense Thieves, #1)Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #2)

Awesome Powers

Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)Storm (Elemental, #1)Mind Games (Mind Games, #1)

Superheros
Being Jamie Baker (Jamie Baker, #1)Dark Star (Dark Star, #1)

I've read and loved almost all of these books. They're great takes on various different powers. I'm sure I've missed some, and I'm very excited to read any more books coming out centered around different powers.

Do you like this trend? Also, which books have you liked, where a special power was a huge part of the plot? I'd love to hear any thoughts on this! :)

  1. I love this trend! I always tried to imagine which super power I wanted and all the things I could do with it :p

I can't really think of any title right now.. So annoying, because I know that I know some titles :p

  3. First of all, I love discussions. Secondly, I love superpowers! Sure, I don't like it when authors suddenly get something and make it a overdone cliche and trend, but how can you not resist superpowers? I think of Robin Benway's April, May, and June novel (which I adored)!

    Great post :)

  4. Completely agree!! I'm saying this because of Storm and Touch. They were so awesome and this trend is really "different" from the usual vampires and werewolves. I like it! :D Great choices, Montana!
