The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin Book Review

Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past.
The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #2)

She can’t.

She used to think her problems were all in her head.

They aren’t.

She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets.
She’s wrong.

In this gripping sequel to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the truth evolves and choices prove deadly. What will become of Mara Dyer next?
I’ve reviewed and mentioned how much I loved The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. I immediately jumped into the sequel after finishing The Unbecoming, and really enjoyed it!

The Evolution of Mara Dyer picks up with Mara forced to go to a school to help her, after what occurred at the end of the last book. Her parents are also monitoring her more and more often and Mara feels that Noah is pulling away.

In the last book, certain chapters were flashbacks to Mara’s past, especially the parts of her life with the accident. In The Evolution of Mara Dyer, the flashbacks are way in the past, and hold even more mystery in them. Mara was still an awesome character, and was coming more to terms with what she was able to do.

I didn’t think Noah and Mara’s relationship was as good in this book and I definitely didn’t like Noah as much. I felt that he didn’t have as much trust in Mara. Either way, Noah is still pretty amazing.

Both the plot and storyline were just as good as the first, with more of the mystery being unraveled. Their was also a character who made a ton of very frightening appearances. If you’ve read the first book, you probably know who I’m referring to ;)

Then came the ending. Oh my gosh, the ending was such an humongous cliffhanger! Like, seriously, what happened was the furthest thing than what I even considered could happen. I really, really, really want the next book now. I am so excited to how the series will end in The Retribution of Mara Dyer.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer was a great sequel. So many new things came about in it. I’d give it 4 out of 5 flowers.

  1. I'm one of the rare people who still haven't read the first book and I'll! I mean it's been on my shelf for a year so I must read it :) I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed this one too :) Great review :)

    1. I hope you do get to it soon. It's a great series! :)

  2. STILL need to read the first book! I think I told myself I was determined to read it after I read your review for that one, but my forgetful mind hates me. I know I'll be kicking myself over the head for delaying it so long. This sounds so great, but maybe I SHOULD wait to read this series until I can get my hands on the third book. Cliffhangers are torture :) GREAT review! I always love reading them as well as your overall blog!
