Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti Book Review

Something Like FateLani and Erin are bonded for life. One thing that connects them is their fascination of fate. Lani wonders how much of our lives has already been decided and how much we can actually influence. Since the Unknown can unexpectedly change our lives forever, how much can we really control? From the minute Lani meets Jason, she can't deny the intense connection they share. It feels like she's known him forever. She's not sure if he feels it, too. But it doesn't matter. Because Jason is Erin's boyfriend. Lani is determined to ignore her feelings for Jason, no matter how powerful they are, rather than risk hurting her best friend. How long can Lani keep running from the boy who might be her destiny?

I was looking for a lighter read, so I decided to pick up a Susane Colasanti book from my bookshelf. Her books are always so fun and make me smile! :)

Something Like Fate is about a girl named Lani who really liked her best friend’s boyfriend, Jason. She also thinks he feels the same way about her. As a result of this, some drama ends up ensuing. After all, it’s not exactly okay to like your best friend’s boyfriend.

I’ve read a few books where the characters in love with their best friend’s/sisters/etc. boyfriend, but I still loved how unique and fun this book was. Although the fact that she likes Jason is a big part of the book, it also shows how Lani grows as a person. I especially appreciated how she didn’t immediately think it was fine to start going and making out with Jason. I appreciate it so much when characters have great relationships with their best friends.

The relationship Jason and Lani had was so cute. I really understood her dilemma, especially with how perfect both people seemed to be for one another. There were some things I didn’t enjoy, though, mainly involving Lani. I didn’t enjoy all the astrology and how she put so much trust into it. That’s mainly based off of my personal opinion of those things, so I’m sure other people may not mind it. However, Lani could come off as somewhat arrogant and rude to me. At the same time, Erin could be pretty inconsiderate of how Lani felt.

The ending was great, although I wish it could have been longer. I feel like it would have been nice to get a better idea of what the future would be like for Lani. Overall, Something Like Fate was a very cute, fun read. I’d give it 3 out of 5 flowers!

    1. I feel the same way. I sounds like one of those books one would read to review just to say that you reviewed something. A quick car-trip read if you would. Maybe something to consider even though reading this review just makes me think it's all a bunch of high school drama.

  2. This doesn't sound too bad. I'm not such a fan of contemporary (I haven't found THE book for me yet), but Jason and Lani sound like solid characters :D
