The Kings of Charleston by Kat H. Clayton Blog Tour Stop

The Kings of Charleston (The Kings of Charleston #1)Casper Whitley is forced to move to Charleston, South Carolina where she’ll be the new kid her senior year of high school. Casper’s upset about the move until she meets the Roman family’s gorgeous son, Cal, but there’s a problem. A mystery surrounds him which can be summed up in one word…Kythera. Never heard of it? Neither has Casper until she finds the word tattooed on cars, paintings and all her new friends.
After Casper’s life is threatened, someone is forced to tell the truth about her parents, the Romans and Kythera’s motives for her being in Charleston. Once the truth is revealed, she must decide whether to protect her family and Kythera’s secrets or walk away from everything she has ever known.
The main reason I wanted to read the The Kings of Charleston was based on how unique the synopsis sounded. I was really curious to see what the Kythera was and I wasn't disappointed by what it turned out to be. The Kings of Charleston had great writing and an awesome storyline.

Casper, the main character, is trying to figure out what Kythera is and why it's such a huge status symbol in the new town she's just moved to. I understood how motivated Casper was to figure out all the secrets the town was hiding. Almost everyone she met knew something about Kythera, although they failed to explain what it was. I was left guessing until it was revealed and I was very surprised by what it turned out to be. It made me think quite a bit about whether or not something like it may have ever existed.

Cal, the love interest, was okay, although I wish there had been more build up to their relationship with each other. Cal had an awful ex girlfriend and his relationship with Casper didn't feel that real to me. Also, I couldn't sympathize with Caspers' parents at all and I felt like they were extremely selfish, especially by putting so much responsibility on Casper.

The plot kept me entertained and the mystery really developed throughout the entirety of the story. When what  Kythera means is finally revealed, it opens up a whole new set of problems. I'm looking forward to seeing what will happen next :) Overall, I'd give The Kings of Charleston 3 1/2 out of 5 flowers. It's a great debut novel!
