Can we choose who we fall in love with?
The summary for First Light immediately drew me in, especially with the mystery it seemed to suggest. Although the love interest didn't appeal to me, I loved all the action and suspense.
The main character, Ronnie, has just recently had her dad pass away. At his funeral, a mysterious guy shows up. As she gets to know him, she discovers there’s more to him that she ever expected.
I didn’t like the romance too much. Kalen definitely had the whole mysterious bad boy thing going, but nothing about him drew me in. Also, Ronnie is pretty much immediately attracted to Kalen and although things didn’t go that smoothly for them, they moved super quickly in their relationship.
I liked Ronnie as a character. She was a great lead! Unfortunately, I felt she was over dependent on Kalen and I didn’t like how easily her emotions were swayed because of him. There were certain decisions she made in the middle of the book that I didn’t agree with it.
The plot was very suspenseful and enjoyable. I didn’t expect the secret surrounding Kalen to be what it was and it definitely wasn’t cliche at all. It was a very unique idea, and I liked reading about all the developments that came out of it.
Overall, First Light is a great start to a series that I’m looking forward to continuing. I’d give it 3 1/2 out of 5 flowers :)
