Unbreakable by Elizabeth Norris Book Review

Unbreakable (Unraveling, #2) Four months after Ben disappeared through the portal to his home universe, Janelle believes she’ll never see him again. Her world is still devastated, but life is finally starting to resume some kind of normalcy. Until Interverse Agent Taylor Barclay shows up. Somebody from an alternate universe is running a human trafficking ring, kidnapping people and selling them on different Earths—and Ben is the prime suspect. Now his family has been imprisoned and will be executed if Ben doesn’t turn himself over within five days.
And when Janelle learns that someone she cares about—someone from her own world—has become one of the missing, she knows that she has to help Barclay, regardless of the danger. Now Janelle has five days to track down the real culprit. Five days to locate the missing people before they’re lost forever. Five days to reunite with the boy who stole her heart. But as the clues begin to add up, Janelle realizes that she’s in way over her head—and that she may not have known Ben as well as she thought. Can she uncover the truth before everyone she cares about is killed?
I absolutely loved Unraveling, so I was super excited to read Unbreakable. I still can’t believe that Unraveling was initially supposed to be a standalone. Unbreakable was a great sequel and continuation to the series!

Unbreakable starts off with all the same characters, except for Ben and Ben’s friends are all back in their regular world. The world is pretty much a disaster after how close it came to being completely destroyed. When Barrett shows up needing Janelle’s help to find Ben, she’s recruited right away.

Janelle was as tough as ever, and all the heartache and problems she had to deal with made her a lot stronger. At the same time, I also loved seeing the same characters again, especially when things got even more intense. There were some shocking things that occurred, and I was consistently surprised by everything that happened.

Also, I’ll be the first to say the Unbreakable was a lot more gory than Unraveling. It definitely wasn’t all blood and gore or anything, but there was some of it, especially with the people that were chasing after them. My one other complaint about the book was the ending. I felt it ended pretty abruptly, and it also struck me as similar to the ending in Unbreakable, which I also felt ended pretty quickly. I’m really hoping that there will be another book in the series.

Overall, Unbreakable is a great sequel to Unraveling. Although the gore and the ending were not my favorite, other elements, such as Janelle’s character growth, really shine. I’d give Unbreakable 4 out of 5 flowers.

  1. I loved Unraveling, the characters were all so amazing and I'm glad that Elizabeth Norris decided to write another book. I can see how Unraveling could be a standalone, but I'm soo happy it's not. I can't wait to read this one, it sounds so much more intense!

  2. I absolutely adore this series, Janelle and Ben are two of my very favorite characters! I agree this one definitely had a darker, more violent feel to it, but I kind of liked that about it:) I think this is the last book and she's leaving it a duology, but I certainly wouldn't mind in the least if she were to extend it to a trilogy! That would be amazing. Lovely review!!!!

  6. I liked the first book okay. I'm hoping this sequel will be good :) Character development sounds good and unless there is a ton of gore, I don't find it too bad. It's sad about the ending though :/ Thanks for the review!
