Cinder by Marissa Meyer Book Review

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1)
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her
stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

I feel like I'm the last blogger to read this book and I can't believe I waited so long. I'm so glad Em finally gave me the push to read it, since Cinder turned out to be so much more than I thought it would be. The twist on Cinderella was super cool and Cinder is definitely a new favorite of mine!

I've always loved retellings, and I loved the touches of Cinderella that existed in Cinder. I think it's so cool that the other books in the series are also retellings of various fairytales. Several different elements of the different stories came together and I loved how they were all interconnected!

Cinder was awesome. She was smart, and she didn't spend a bunch of time feeling sorry for herself, considering how bad she was treated. She grew a lot over the course of the story and her relationship with Kai was especially sweet. With a few chapters told from Kai's pov, I grew to really like him and understand all his burdens. There wasn't too much romance, but it was incorporated throughout the plot. I'm definitely hoping the characters will get a HEA.

My one complaint about Cinder is that I felt the beginning was somewhat slow. Things sped up pretty quickly, though, and I'm so excited to read Scarlet after that ending! I need to know what happens next, lol.

Cinder is an awesome dystopian that I'd highly recommend. I'm so glad I finally read this! I'd give it 4 out of 5 flowers :)

  2. Cinder is such a great retelling! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did :D Things do get racing towards the end. I'm about to dive into a reread of Cinder and read Scarlet and I'm hoping for a story just as good (if not better)

  3. Cinder is one of my favorites!! You have to read Scarlet :) What is an HEA?
