Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi Book Review

Ignite Me (Shatter Me #3)
The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, called "a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love"
Juliette now knows
she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she'll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew-about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam-was wrong.
In Shatter Me, Tahereh Mafi created a captivating and original story that combined the best of dystopian and paranormal and was praised by Publishers Weekly as "a gripping read from an author who's not afraid to take risks." The sequel, Unravel Me, blew readers away with heart-racing twists and turns, and New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia said it was "dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense." Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and climactic end.

I’ve been counting down the days until Ignite Me would finally release. The first two books in the series are two of my all time favorite books and I wanted to know how everything would finally end. I started Ignite Me the second I received it and couldn’t stop reading until I finished. It’s the most amazing series conclusion I’ve ever read and I couldn’t have asked for a better one!

This is one of those books that I wish I could go back and reread. The writing is as beautiful as ever and some of the metaphors throughout are crazy (in a good way). Juliette has changed so much from who she was in the beginning of the series. She’s stronger, smarter, and more determined that ever. She’s one of the best main characters I’ve read about in a while and the way her character developed was done really well.

In terms of the love triangle, although I was initially Team Adam in Shatter Me, Unravel Me switched me over to Team Warner (it might have had something to do with chapter 62 ;) There are scenes with both guys in this book, and I loved all of them. I was so happy Juliette made a definite decision of who she wanted to be with. There were several parts where I cried. There’s also some super sweet scenes, along with some steamier ones. I went through pretty much every emotion possible while reading Ignite Me.

The ending was, by far, the best ending I’ve ever read for a series, especially a trilogy. I was completely satisfied by the ending, although I’m definitely sad to say goodbye to all of my favorite characters. It’d be so cool if Kenji ended up getting his own book!

This is one of the first YA book series I ever started, and it holds a place in my heart. I’m hoping to reread it sometime in the near future. I’m already tempted to go back and reread all of my favorite parts. There are some seriously amazing quotes throughout the book. If you haven’t yet read this series, you definitely should! Each book is better than the last one, and I’d give Ignite Me 5 out of 5 flowers. I can’t say enough good things about it :)

Favorite Quotes:

“Ignite, my love. Ignite.”

“It's the kind of kiss that inspires stars to climb into the sky
and light up the world.”

“But there’s something about the darkness, the stillness of this hour, I think, that creates a language of its own. There’s a strange kind of freedom in the dark; a terrifying vulnerability we allow ourselves at exactly the wrong moment, tricked by the darkness into thinking it will keep our secrets. We forget that the blackness is not a blanket; we forget that the sun will soon rise. But in the moment, at least, we feel brave enough to say things we’d never say in the light.”

  7. I LOVE the Shatter Me trilogy and I was so excited when this book finally came out! I loved it, but then I didn't love it. I actually wrote a super long, ranty review about it, but it really is one of my favorite series. I'm glad you liked it and that it was a perfect ending for you!

  8. I just finished this 24 hours after I received it in the mail on Tuesday and LOVED it! One of my favorite series ever too! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll definitely be rereading the whole thing soon. A little sad to see some changes in one of the characters throughout but it was understandable. I need to go back and read Adam's story. It seems like the missing piece!

  9. I'm confused about how I feel. I think the overall story is a good story but I don't know if I'm satisfied by it. I have some issues with it, and I finished it kind of disappointed. It's not cause of the love triangle thing either. But I'm glad because of Juliette's transformation and I think that's the real star of the series.

  10. BE STILL MY HEART. I think I know who she'll end up with, but I'm still on edge. And I'm thrilled that you loved this one! Unravel Me was a bit of a disappointer for me, except for chapter 62. Great review!

  11. OK, now I'm dying to read the last two books in the series even more. What an awesome, glowing review :) I didn't want to pick up the second book before the last one was out, cause I knew it would be a torture! Now that the series is complete I really need to get on it and find out how this story ends. Tahereh Mafi's writing style is phenomenal, I can't wait to dive back into the world of Juliette, Adam and Warner :) So excited!

I really love the fact that you're now Team Warner - I've been on his team from the very beginning :) There was just something about his character that grabbed my heart! And I am glad you said Juliette wasn't flip-flopping, but decided who she wanted to be with. I hate when characters switch back and forth between love interests. OMG, I am so excited for this book now!!

Thank you for the lovely review :) Loved reading it!

    1. Thank you so much, Evie! I saw no appeal at all in Warner during Shatter Me. I didn't even consider him a love interest, but I love him so much now. I hope you love Ignite Me once you read it :)

  12. Oh my goodness, YES! I agree with you on pretty much everything. I loved how Juliette made a definite decision in this book, and then all of the moments between her and that guy? I DIED! (CHAPTER 55? 56?!)

    Great review!
