What's Next? #6

What's Next? Hosted by IceyBooks

Hi everyone! I thought it'd be fun to take part in this week's What's Next? hosted by Icey Books, to help me decide the book I should read next for spring break. Which book should I read next? :)

The Winner's Curse (The Winner's Trilogy, #1)Winning what you want may cost you everything you love
As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two c
hoices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.
One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.
But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.
Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart.

I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be some kind of hero.
Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)But when your whole life gets swept up by a tornado—taking you with it—you have no choice but to go along, you know?

Sure, I've read the books. I've seen the movies. I know the song about the rainbow and the happy little blue birds. But I never expected Oz to look like this. To be a place where Good Witches can't be trusted, Wicked Witches may just be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed for acts of rebellion. There's still the yellow brick road, though—but even that's crumbling.

What happened?
Dorothy. They say she found a way to come back to Oz. They say she seized power and the power went to her head. And now no one is safe.

My name is Amy Gumm—and I'm the other girl from Kansas.
I've been recruited by the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked.
I've been trained to fight.
And I have a mission:
Remove the Tin Woodman's heart.
Steal the Scarecrow's brain.
Take the Lion's courage.
Then and only then—Dorothy must die!

After the End (After the End, #1)World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They've survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from wh
oever else might still be out there. At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life. When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she's trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

  1. Ah all of these are on my to-read list and I cannot wait to see what you think of them! :) I have heard only praises for The Winner's Curse and I need to get it soon. Great post :)

  2. I have read all of them but the Dorothy Must Die (which looks super good!). I loved The Winner's Curse, it is a must read for sure. After The End was just an okay read for me but mostly that was because I thought it was a dystopian and it wasn't at all.

  3. I vote TWC, because well everyone seems to be loving it, ahah. :)

  4. Ooo, I LOVED THE WINNER'S CURSE! You must read that one. And I also enjoyed DOROTHY MUST DIE, so I'd say read that after. Thanks for participating!

  5. I read The Winner's Curse last week and I LOVED it! It is a must read!

  6. I really enjoyed The Winner's Curse so I definitely recommend that one! I'm undecided which book I'm gonna read next....Dorothy Must Die is one of the ones on my list!

  7. I vote for 'after the end' great post and idea... Might do this on my blog... Check it out :)

  8. I've read a lot of great reviews for The Winner's Curse, so I'd say read that! I want to read Dorothy Must Die too though.

  9. That's a tough choice! All three look really good and are ones I'm excited for. I'm going to go with Dorothy Must Die though, I'm interested to see how this one plays out!

  10. All three of these are on my TBR, but Dorothy Must Die looks really good and retellings are always great.

  11. Both Winners Curse and Dorothy Must Die are fabulous so I vote for both!! Depends on what genre you want I guess! :D
