Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins Book Review

Rebel Belle
Harper Price, peerless Southern belle, was born ready for a Homecoming tiara. But after a strange run-in at the dance imbues her with incredible abilities, Harper's destiny takes a turn for the seriously weird. She becomes a Paladin, one of an ancient line of guardians with agility, super strength and lethal fighting instincts.
Just when life can't get any more disastrously crazy, Harper finds out who she's charged to protect: David Stark, school
reporter, subject of a mysterious prophecy and possibly Harper's least favorite person. But things get complicated when Harper starts falling for him--and discovers that David's own fate could very well be to destroy Earth.
With snappy banter, cotillion dresses, non-stop action and a touch of magic, this new young adult series from bestseller Rachel Hawkins is going to make y'all beg for more.

I love Rachel Hawkin’s Hex Hall series, so I’ve been pretty excited for a while to read Rebel Belle. Rebel Belle didn’t disappoint, as it was both hilarious and exciting. I read it all in one sitting, and I’m already so excited to continue on with the series!

The first line caught my attention right away:
“Looking back, none of this would have happened if I’d brought lip gloss the night of the Homecoming Dance.”
From there, things get pretty crazy for the main character and the plot itself surrounds her developing powers that she needs to use in order to protect her sworn enemy, David.

Harper is an awesome main character. She was hilarious, but also extremely realistic and strong. At first, I had my doubts about her, considering she seems to be shallow and not much else. However, she has so much more to her than just that.

With that said, the personality of all the girls in this book, especially surrounding cotillion, was pretty fascinating. I’ve never lived or been to the South, so I don’t know how true the representations of the society surrounding cotillion were, but it was crazy how serious everyone became over it.

David was one of my favorite characters, and I loved his and Harper’s banter. They made a great team and he was both pretty sweet and snarky ;) All of the side characters were really different (but fun to read about) too!

The plot was so intense, as Harper attempted to maintain her personal life, while juggling her supernatural properties. This was met with varying degrees of success, although it made sense considering everything that had happened.

There is a crazy twist to the ending, that in a way, seems kind of perfect for the book. I’m looking forward to seeing how that will affect everything in the future of this series. I’d give Rebel Belle 5 out of 5 flowers. It’s an amazing start to a new series, and if you haven’t read anything by Rachel Hawkins before, I’d highly recommend reading a book by her asap!
