Paper or Plastic by Vivi Barnes Blog Tour Stop

Paper or PlasticWelcome to SmartMart, where crime pays minimum wage...
Busted. Alexis Dubois just got caught shoplifting a cheap tube of lipstick at the local SmartMart. She doesn’t know what’s worse—disappointing her overbearing beauty-pageant-obsessed mother for the zillionth
Now Lex is stuck in the bizarro world of big-box retail. Coupon cutters, jerk customers, and learning exactly what a “Code B” really is (ew). And for added awkwardness, her new supervisor is the totally cute—and adorably geeky—Noah Grayson. Trying to balance her out-of-control mother, her pitching position on the softball team, and her secret crush on the school geek makes for one crazy summer. But ultimately, could the worst job in the world be the best thing that ever happened to her?

Paper or Plastic was such an adorable read! I definitely plan to check out more of Vivi Barnes' books, including Olivia Twisted, in the future.

I loved the romance. Noah was an incredible guy and some of the things he said were just so sweet. It was evident how much he cared for Lex. Lex was also great. Paper or Plastic is told in first person, and her perspective on things and the way she thought sometimes was especially hilarious.

The struggle she went through with her grandmother having Alzheimer’s was sad to read about, but I really liked how the relationship she had with her grandma was depicted.

The setting of the SmartMart as Lex’s place of employment was also hilarious. It makes me wonder how many of the types of customers described actually pass through similar grocery stories on a regular basis. There was one especially funny instance in the novel involving an extreme couponer ;)

I do wish there had been more background to Noah’s dad and maybe an epilogue into the next school year. However, I was still satisfied with the ending. If you're looking for a super cute contemporary, I'd definitely recommend this one! I'd give Paper or Plastic 4 out of 5 flowers.

She was raised on a farm in East Texas where her theater-loving mom and cowboy dad gave her a unique perspective on life. 1. This sounds cute! I love books that take place in unique places... like I'll Meet You There takes place in a quirky motel I'm told... that sort of sounds like how this book is. The odd people you come across while working in a grocery store. Great review, glad you liked it :)
