BEA 2015 and NYC Day 1 Recap

This year was my first year going to BEA, and I was really excited to attend, although unsure about what exactly to expect. Lili from Lili's Reflections was nice enough to include me in her amazing group that consisted of Nicole from The Quiet Concert, Bekka from Pretty Deadly Reviews, Ashleigh from The YA Kitten, and Dana from DanaSquare.

I had an overnight flight from LAX to JFK that arrived early Wednesday morning. From there, my mom and I dropped our stuff off at our hotel in New Jersey and headed over to Javits Center. There, I met up with Lili, Nicole, Ashleigh, Becca and Dana. When the exhibit hall finally opened, all of us darted over to the Macmillan booth to obtain a ticket for the Truthwitch signing. After getting a ticket, I wandered around for a while before getting in line for the Edgewater signing. It sounds really good and I've heard it has a We Were Liars feel to it.

I forgot exactly when, but at one point, I headed over to a HarperTeen galley drop where I picked up A Step Toward Falling by Cammie McGovern.

I attended the Truthwitch signing at 3:00 and Susan Dennard was really sweet!

After wandering the convention halls for a little while longer, my mom and I left to go to the post office at around 4:30. (The FedEx shipping in Javits would have cost $100+ to ship back the books we had gotten that day, so we decided to go to the closest post office instead.)

We had a list of restaurants we had been wanting to try and one of them, NY Pizza Suprema, was only a minute walk from the post office. It turned out to be delicious! :)

Following that, we went to The Strand. I've always wanted to go there and it was so cool! It's basically a book lover's paradise :) I purchased a few books and my mom picked up a few coffee mugs.

Books from the Strand (excluding Anna and the Swallow Man, which is from BEA)

After trying to get back to New Jersey using the subway and ending up in Union Square (where we maybe were in the first place? we were pretty confused, lol), we ended up getting an Uber for the ride back to NJ.

I had an amazing time my first day at BEA and in NY! :) Here are the books I received at BEA on Friday:

Not pictured: Play On by Michelle Smith, Illuminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman, and Uprooted by Lynne Reid Banks

I'll be posting my Day 2 recap tomorrow night (EDIT:Saturday morning-I forgot about graduation/grad nite when I scheduled this post, so I'll be posting it Sunday instead), so stay tuned for that! :)

  1. Ah, I didn't know you were at BEA. Man, I fail at this. I really want to go again next year and make plans to meet with people since I'm so shy to just see people and say hi. haha That's awesome you had a nice group of bloggers to be with though - I had my sister, so that helps!

  4. Very nice recap. Nice blog too.

I had fun too and stayed in Hoboken at my son's. I took the ferry back and forth. Much easier than trying to maneuver with a suitcase on the PATH.

  7. I love The Strand! Getting to NJ from NYC is sometimes easier if you can take a train from Penn Station. I used Uber a lot at BEA this year and it was so easy which is always nice.
